Here Come the Architects: Modernists Want Glass Roof, Steel Spire, or Minaret for Notre Dame

Perhaps most controversial proposal for the rebuilding of the destroyed tower is a proposal in the architecture magazine Domus for the fallen spire to be replaced with an Islamic minaret, to memorialise Algerians who protested the French government in the 1960s.  “Macron said Notre Dame will be rebuilt consistent with our modern, diverse nation. That should be setting off alarm bells.”  Father @benedict Kiely, however, reminds us that Notre Dame is a cathedral.  As one observer notes: “Notre Dame is a Catholic Cathedral, an icon of France and of Christianity.
