Keeping a Grip on Churches, a Hand Out for Dollars

China is known for both economic power and persecution of Christian believers, and a longtime conservative activist says more Americans need to know more about the cheap products we buy.  American Values president Gary Bauer, currently serving on the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, says religious persecution by the communist-run government remains an ongoing concern for the U.S. agency.   Americans need to know that many of our cheaply made Chinese goods arrive on our store shelves because of slave labor.  “Some of the things that we are buying because we want to save a few dollars,” Bauer says, “we often find out later are being manufactured by slave labor – often Christians that are being held in prisons in China.”
