Joy Break: Catholic and Evangelical Soccer Players Join in Prayer After World Cup

Belgium Catholic Romelu Lukaku and Panamanian evangelical Fidel Escobar took a knee together and prayed on the field following the 2018 World Cup. Belgium won the match, 3-0. Immediately after it was over, the two men knelt in prayer. A Twitter user, Oscar Flex-Kibet, posted the image. He tweeted, “Lukaku and Fidel Escobar kneeling and praying at the final whistle was a beautiful moment for many. Both players may represent different religions and had differing results yet they found peace in what they were doing.” He added, “Love for the game. God above all #WorldCup#BELPAN#BEL.” Lukaku has knelt in prayer following a previous game. He posted an image on Instagram.
