Update: 6 years longer! The Benefits of Belief – Religious people have longer lifespans than atheists

The afterlife isn’t the only thing atheists are missing out on by not believing in God. A just-released study found that religious people live an average of four years longer than atheists. Researchers at Ohio State University analyzed 1,000 obituaries published across the United States since 2011 and found a correlation between faith and longevity. Baldwin Way, associate professor of psychology at Ohio State and co-author of the study, said religious strictures on unhealthy practices such as alcohol consumption, drug use and sex with multiple partners, may explain the findings in part.
